Violent Arrest of Kamran Sakhtemangar by Security Forces in Sanandaj

According to Hana’s colleagues, on the morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, Kamran Sakhtemangar, a labor activist and former political prisoner from Sanandaj, was arrested by security forces.

Sources informed Hana that Mr. Sakhtemangar was violently detained on Jami Street in Sanandaj by security forces without a judicial warrant and was taken to an undisclosed location.

Previously, the First Branch of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court had sentenced him to three months of discretionary imprisonment and a monetary fine on charges of “propaganda against the regime through social media and interviews with television networks.” Based on the legal provisions of his prior case, his three-month prison sentence was converted into a fine of 34 million tomans.

The hearing for Kamran Sakhtemangar’s charges was held on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the First Branch of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, without legal representation.

It is worth noting that he had previously been arrested on September 29, 2022, during the nationwide protests, when security forces raided his home in Sanandaj. He was later released on March 8, 2023.

Additionally, in 2019, Kamran Sakhtemangar had been sentenced to five years in prison on charges of “membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties of the Iranian government” and one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime.”
