Hana Human Rights Organization Report on the Situation of 51 Political Prisoners Under Death Sentence in Iran

Currently, 51 political prisoners in Iran are under death sentences, with their verdicts confirmed by the Supreme Court, making their execution imminent at any moment. The sentenced individuals include Kurdish citizens, political activists, civil rights defenders, environmental activists, and members of ethnic and religious minorities who have been accused and, in many cases, unjustly sentenced to death.

Key Aspects of the Lack of Fair Trials in These Cases:

  1. Lack of Judicial Fairness:
Many of these individuals were tried without access to a chosen lawyer and in courts that failed to meet fair trial standards.
  2. Ambiguous and Politically Motivated Charges:
Charges such as “Moharebeh” (waging war against God), “Baghi” (armed rebellion), espionage, and blasphemy have been broadly and without substantive evidence leveled against these prisoners.
  3. Risk of Sudden and Secret Executions:
With the Supreme Court’s confirmation, executions can be carried out swiftly and without prior notice.
