On October 31 and November 1, 2024, a United Nations meeting was held at the UN headquarters in Geneva with the participation of representatives from member states as well as independent human rights organizations. The purpose of the meeting was to examine and assess major global challenges, including international security, climate change, sustainable development, and human rights.
In the international security section, representatives from member states addressed emerging threats such as terrorism, cyberattacks, and regional armed conflicts. The importance of enhancing international cooperation and information sharing to counter these threats was among the key points discussed.
Climate change and environmental issues were also a significant part of this meeting. Member states committed to taking more serious actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to increase the use of renewable energy. These measures are aimed at preserving the environment and reducing the impacts of climate change.
Regarding sustainable development, representatives emphasized the need to reduce economic inequalities and support vulnerable communities. They also highlighted investment in sustainable development and support for innovations and new technologies to achieve these goals.
Human rights and the protection of vulnerable groups were other key topics of this meeting. Member state representatives stressed the importance of safeguarding and promoting human rights worldwide and presented programs to support individuals at risk.
The meeting aimed to strengthen international cooperation and to find joint solutions for global challenges, seeking to contribute to improving global conditions through international collaboration.
It is noteworthy that two members of the Hana Human Rights Organization, Ms. Shahla Kakaei and Mr. Voria Mohammadian, attended the meeting as representatives of this organization.
