According to received reports, Mashaallah Karami, the father of Mohammad Mehdi Karami, a protester executed during the revolutionary movement “Woman, Life, Freedom,” was sentenced by Branch 102 of the Criminal Court of Nazarabad, Karaj, to eight years and ten months in prison, a fine of 1.9 billion tomans, and confiscation of assets.
According to the issued verdict communicated to Mr. Karami, he was sentenced to eight years and ten months in prison, a fine of 1.9 billion tomans, and confiscation of assets on charges of "acquiring illegal property and involvement in money laundering." The verdict was communicated to Mr. Karami on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Mashaallah Karami had previously been sentenced by Branch 2 of the Karaj Court to six years in prison on charges of "assembly and collusion and propaganda activities against the regime." The hearing for Mr. Karami's charges was held on April 23, 2024, in Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Karaj.
In late March of last year, Mr. Sharifzadeh Ardakani, Mr. Karami's lawyer, announced that four charges were included in his client's indictment. Two of these charges—under Article 500 for "propaganda against the regime" and Article 610 for "assembly and collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security"—were referred to the Karaj Court. Additionally, charges under Article 2 of the Law on Intensification of Punishment for "acquiring illegal property" and Article 9 of the Anti-Money Laundering Law were also reviewed by the Criminal Court of Nazarabad.

He was then transferred from the Intelligence Detention Center to the Central Prison of Karaj on October 28, 2023. After three months in quarantine, he was moved to Ward 15 of the prison.
It is worth noting that Mohammad Mehdi Karami, a 22-year-old protester from Bijar and a resident of Karaj, was arrested during the Jina revolutionary movement. He was sentenced to death for the alleged murder of a Basij soldier named Ruhollah Ajamian and was executed on January 7, 2024, in the Central Prison of Karaj.
