According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, a female citizen identified as “Samira Kashian (Kamian),” daughter of Ahmad and a resident of Miandoab, was murdered by her husband with a knife for unknown reasons.
Samira Kashian, aged 25, was married and the mother of two young children.
It is important to note that femicide occurs due to unequal power relations between men and women and the dominance of a patriarchal system. In a society governed by a patriarchal culture, men hold more power and dominate women. In such a society, women are demeaned and possess less value, importance, and rights. They are forced to submit and obey men and their demands. Furthermore, this culture imposes numerous obligations and prohibitions on women, and violating these norms (often referred to as social norms) can lead to violence against women and, in extreme cases, their death, such as in honor killings, which have recently been reported in the public arena. Another factor contributing to violence and murder of women is the lack of legal protection for women. No law has yet been enacted to reduce violence against women, and existing laws do not provide adequate deterrence to protect women's lives.
